Get To Know: LD

London’s LD is a dubstep artist many are more familiar with than they probably realize, Leon Day has long served as a mastering engineer at dubplate cutter at Transition Studios, reknowned for their work with such dubstep mainstays as Distance, Digital Mystikz, and helping formulate the unique and genre-bending sounds of 2562, Martyn, and Appleblim. Between working with these highly acclaimed artists, and his own releases on quintessential labels such as Hyperdub, Soul Jazz, and Dub Police, there is no mistake that LD has already created a legacy within the world of underground urban music. LD has also forged a sound uniquely his own, drawing on deeper influences of roots reggae and original dub sounds on his own productions such as “Clock Watchin,” “Woodblock,” and his collaboration with Kode9 on “Bad,” undoubtably one of the anthems of dubstep.

We are pleased to announce that Heat Promotions along with our friends at Dubconscious, and Athens’ dubstep hero D:RC, we  will be presenting a live DJ set from LD at New Earth Music Hall in Athens, GA a week from today on Thursday, June 24. This show is 18+ and tickets are $10 for 18-21, and $8 for the 21+ crowd. The weather is nice and everybody is ramping up for the Wired festival in Athens beginning the following day, be sure to join us at New Earth for what is sure to be an exciting introduction to a weekend full of exciting music at New Earth Music Hall and other Athens venues.

A New Year A Week Late

Well, I wanted to wait until I had all the photos from everybody but unfortunately Ion ran into some data loss issues, so as opposed to making everybody continue waiting for an update, I’ll help solve your impatience with an update. Before the jump however, thanks to Evan over at DataSavers LLC for offering to help save what they can from his CF card, the shots I got to see before it crapped out looked awesome, as to be expected.

That being said, my New Years Eve week was filled with a ton of friends and a ton of music, which has steadily become the norm over the past few years as STS9 has begun to make multi-night runs in Atlanta the norm. This year was another 4-night run, which, even for a seasoned concert-goer like myself, begins to push the limits of my physical abilities. Add on top of that that Euphonic Conceptions was throwing some pretty incredible afterparties at The Masquerade each night until the sun came up, it’s easy to see why.

To get the week started, a bunch of the rightClique family did a show with Adrian from Dubconscious at The Five Spot over in Little 5 Points. Rowland and I did a vs. set that we are both pretty proud of, and will be doing again at BRS4 on the 31st. On New Years Day, rightClique held another Bass Recreation Society event at The Atlanta Bench with a whole ton of artists. It was a fairly decent success, and we’ll be making an exciting blog post about that with some snippets of various dj sets from that day, and a whole ton of photos over on the rClique blog in the next couple of days.

ECstageWe were fortunate enough to be treated as guests at both venues for the entire 4 night run. For the shows at The Masquerade this was amazing; I was standing almost over the shoulder’s of the artist on stage watching them play their sets. Thanks to Euphonic Conceptions I was able to see Flying Lotus, Bonobo, Eskmo/Welder, OTT, 3WS, Pnuma Trio, Richard Devine, and Prefuse 73. Much thanks to Dave and Josh not only for putting together an awesome line-up of music for the afterparties, but also for treating me as a guest for the entire run. The level of hospitality provided by these guys is comparable only to the quality of talent they brought out. Plus, it would be difficult to mention that I had the opportunity to meet a bunch of fellow LD friends from STS9, those of you I had the opportunity to meet, and hang out with over the run it was a wonderful time for me, and hopefully I’ll be seeing some of you guys in Athens in March!
