Spiritualized @ Terminal West

Photo and Video recap of Spiritualized’s late-night performance at Terminal West on May 9, 2015 as a part of Shaky Knees Festivl

I was fortunate enough to catch Spiritualized, one of my favorite bands for about as long as I can remember, play a late-night set at Atlanta’s Terminal West on May 9, 2015 as a part of their two appearances in town for the Shaky Knees Festival. A much more intimate, and better sounding venue than my two previous experiences at The Variety Playhouse, or conversely the festival grounds.

Included are a handful of photos and a short stitching together of some video clips I grabbed during the course of the evening; being as close as I was I was more focused on enjoying the show than holding up a camera for 5-to-6 minute stretches. It’s rare I get to see Spiritualized was definitely wanted to savor the moment. Thanks to YouTube user ChromeDream for supplying a few full-length songs.

Man Poses For Mugshot, Wearing Tshirt of Previous Mugshot

As seen in the above mug shot (click to enlarge), a coworker of Burt’s at a Pittsfield restaurant created a shirt with a reproduction of the booking photo taken following his mid-June arrest. The t-shirt photo was captioned “Burt Family Reunion 8/8-8/10/2014” and “sponsored by Bud Light and Somerset County Sheriff.”

Florida Man stand back, Maine Man is here to party.  This wonderfully Xzbitesque display comes to us from The Smoking Gun

Vivian Kubrick Photo Collection

Vivian Kubrick shares photos of her growing up on the sets of her father, Stanley Kubrick’s, film sets.

Stanley Kubrick‘s daughter Vivian is well-known not just for her cameos in 2001: A Space Odyssey and Barry Lyndon but also her own documentary about her father’s work on The Shining.  Recently she has started sharing photos of her on the set of her father’s film sets via her Twitter account. Definitely some cool stuff to check out

The Science Behind Selfies

Data-mining the selfie with Selfiecity.com – extensive analysis and an interactive selfie browser

Enter SelfieCity, a website that takes an analytical view at “selfies” taken from users in Bangkok, Berlin, Moscow, New York, and Sao Paolo. The site uses image recognition and analysis to analyze tilt, angle, mood, and all the other things that make the selfie what it is.

This is data-mining and vanity together, at its finest – as well as an interesting use of Amazon’s Mechanical Turk platform.

Get down to the details by seeing the complete analysis and reading some full-length reports on SelfieCity, but most exciting is the interactive selfie browser Selfiexploratory.

Women’s selfies show more expressive poses; for instance, the average amount of head tilt is 150% higher than for men: (12.3° vs. 8.2°). Sao Paulo is most extreme – there, the average head tilt for females is 16.9°
