Telefon Tel Aviv – Re:Generation 2007 (Live Set)

Download a recording of Telefon Tel Aviv’s live performance at Re:Generation festival at Deerfields, NC on July 7, 2007

July 2007, a reasonably small music festival in Horse Shoe, outside Asheville, NC at the Deerfields Retreat – among the many performers that weekend was Telefon Tel Aviv who performed this brief but memorable set in the middle of the afternoon.

Deerfields Retreat (2007)

Far more people pictured above than were on-hand for the afternoon’s performance which made for an even more intimate setting in the hills of North Carolina. Please note this is an audience recording, not taken from soundboard. The entire set is available as a single track in FLAC or 320 MP3 below. I haven’t had time to sort out the setlist yet.

Hefty Records Flossed Out Mix

A 2006 mix from The Glitch Mob’s edIT, showcasing beats from Hefty Records’ discography and the best of mid-aughts rap.

Coming out of Chicago, John HughesHefty Records served as a home for for artists like Elliot Lipp, and Telefon Tel Aviv, and at least one Prefuse 73 side project, as well as providing a home for some overlooked artists of the time such as Some Water and Sun and Retina.it

A number of the artists featured here including the DJ have moved on to understandably different aesthetics in the 8 years since this has been released but, like any good mix it is not only technically interesting but serves as a snapshot of the time which is was made.

edIT, now of Glitch Mob fame, shares remixes of mid-aught era rap on top of a handful of beats from the Hefty Records collection. Years later and I still have a soft-spot for this one.

Trevino – 3 and 1 EP (3024-022)

Rather than bore with you my affinity for adjectives, and fill up this website’s beautiful negative space with my rambling, I prefer to let the music speak for itself and encourage you to listen to the stream below, courtesy of the 3024 Soundcloud

After a brief respite from talking about music as regularly as in the past, a combo-breaker here as we take a look at 3024‘s latest effort. Marcus Intalex adds to the impressive list of releases under his Trevino project with this 3 track selection for Martyn‘s label. A safe assumption that the title of the release points to the 3 regular tracks +1 exclusive for digital purchasers of the release, Trevino showing real growth in the realm of acid influenced house since dabbling with the idea on earlier Revolv:r releases such as Debbit. (still a personal favorite of mine)

Like it? Me too, you should download 3 and 1 EP on iTunes / Surus if you’d rather pick up the FLAC downloads or the vinyl copy.

Day One

Day One has a straight-forward, and great looking app on both OS X and iOS, allowing you to add photos, geolocations, and weather to journal entries, additionally providing synchronization between devices by using your iCloud or Dropbox accounts so your posts show up the same regardless of which device you using to create, or subsequently revisiting your entries.

I have sharply increased the amount of writing I have done throughout 2012, however not limiting it to contributions online. Enter Day One, which is probably my favorite app in a while; easily the best electronic journaling app I have used.

After messing around with Memento, trying to do it myself with Evernote, and a few other variations, Day One hits the mark of providing a clean interface while still providing a rich feature set  that you can only find through digital journaling.

While most of my entries are not incredibly long, or self-reflective I do appreciate the ability to go back and revisit these thoughts and experiences later on. Take a look at the app in-depth with the links below; the feature set is rich, and the UI is great – both of which are important in making sure the app is one I will want to continue to revisit and use as time goes on.
